The GOT audience is more gender-balanced, younger and more active on social than Mad Men fans,
Game of Thrones’ audience is younger, more social media savvy and more evenly split along gender lines than Mad Men’s, according to a Vocative analysis. We looked at social media data relating to both shows, and while the chronicles of Westeros generate a huge hubbub online, Don Draper and his team seem to have lost their lustre.
The Facebook audiences for the two shows are drastically different – fans of the Game of Thrones Facebook page are almost even split male to female, and also far younger than Mad Men viewers. 65 percent of GOT fans are under 34, whereas Mad Men fans are overwhelmingly male and fall, predominantly, into the 35- to 54-year-old age bracket.
GOT fans are also far more engaged online during the shows – using a sample of tweets which could be Geo-located, we spotted 13,000 tweets referencing Game of Thrones on the night of the season five premiere, compared to just 2,000 tweets referring to Mad Men on the night its final series aired.
